Michigan is located in the Great Lakes Region of the middle, northern area of the United States. Its nickname, "The Great Lakes State" is well earned as it has nearly 65,000 lakes. The state is made of two peninsulas, the Upper Peninsula and the Lower Peninsula. All of the hotels Michigan offers are conveniently located near the state's many attractions.

Detroit is located in Wayne County, in the southeastern corner of the Lower Peninsula. With a metropolitan area population of 5.7 million, it is the state's largest city. The Dossin Great Lakes Museum houses a wonderful collection of model ships as well as exhibits about the history of boating on the Great Lakes. It is open Saturday and Sunday, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Motown Museum tells the story of one of the state's most famous companies. It is open Tuesday through Saturday. The Detroit Science Center has over 200 interactive science exhibits. It is open Wednesday through Sunday. In Dearborn, The Henry Ford Museum spans nine acres of exhibit space dedicated to the history and impact of transportation. The museum is open seven days a week from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The 80-acre Greenfield Village is located adjacent to the Henry Ford Museum and offers a glimpse into what 19th century life was like in the area. It has rides, exhibits and live demonstrations. The Village is open seasonally, with varying hours but generally is open from mid-April through the end of October, 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.

Grand Rapids is located in Kent County in the central, western portion of the state's Lower Peninsula, about 40 miles west of Lake Michigan. It has a metropolitan area population of about 774,000 people. Here, the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park is one of the interesting attractions. Comprised of 132 acres of garden displays and outdoor sculptures, the museum is open Monday through Saturday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with extended hours on Thursday, until 9:00 p.m. It is also open on Sunday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Grand Rapids Art Museum is open Tuesday through Sunday with varying hours. It features 19th and 20th century works of art including paintings, sculpture, drawings, photographs and decorative arts.

Located in Genesee County, about 65 miles northwest of Detroit, is the city of Flint. Flint is most famous for being the headquarters of General Motors. The Flint Cultural Center consists of seven institutions: The Flint Institute of Arts, Flint Institute of Music, The Whiting, Longway Planetarium, Sloan Museum, Buick Automotive Gallery and Flint Youth Theatre. The Crossroads Village is made up of 34 historic structures dating back to the 1800s, including a barbershop, a blacksmith shop, a school, a barn and a meeting hall. The village offers a 40-minute steam locomotive train ride, the Huckleberry Railroad, which winds through the village. Crossroads Village is open from the end of May through early September, Wednesday through Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Lansing, the capital of the state, is located in Ingham County in the central, southern portion of the Lower Peninsula. The Michigan Walk of Fame pays tribute to the state's notable residents. It is located downtown, on Washington Square. The five-story Michigan Historical Museum houses exhibits that illustrate the history of the state and its people. It is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The city of Marquette is located in Marquette County on the state's Upper Peninsula. It has a population of about 21,000 people, making it the largest city on the Upper Peninsula. The Marquette County History Museum features exhibits that detail the rich history of the Upper Peninsula and Marquette County. It is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with extended hours on Wednesday until 8:00 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The 323-acre Presque Isle Park offers picnic areas, a pool, a playground, a boat marina and a number of scenic trails.
